Hiking one of the many trails in the State of Florida offers a
great probability of giving the hiker an experience to remember.
Once you go on one hike, then you are ready for your next hike.
The hiking is both interesting and marvelous, on the dozens of
hiking trails available to the public in the great state of
Florida.
The most amazing hiking in northwest Florida is Florida Trail,
Eglin East. It is the largest military reservation in Florida. It
is one of the most beautiful backpacking trips in Florida, with
deeply shaded old-growth forest, dozens of streams creating
ravines through the clayhills, seepage slopes with pitcher
plants, and nice designated campsites set 8-12 miles apart.
The hiking in northeast Florida also includes Florida Trail,
Rodman to Lake Delancy Florida Trail, Etoniah West, Devil's
Millhopper State Park, Washington Oaks Gardens State Park - Bella
Vista Trail.
You'd think you were in the Amazon, or Hawaii, when you hear and
see the tumbling cascades behind a screen of dense vegetation.
But you are in the Devil's Millhoper State Park in Gainesville,
Florida, located just a few blocks from residential neighborhoods
in Gainesville, FL. But the ephemeral waterfalls that occur here
are just one of the delights to be found in this small but
intriguing state park, which was discovered in the 1880's. It
takes 232 steps to walk to the bottom of this 500-foot-wide,
120-foot-deep sinkhole. Each landing reveals a new layer of
forest, each crack and crevice a bounty of botanical wonders. The
best time to visit is after a heavy rain, when tall waterfalls
gush down the sides of the sinkhole. A 0.9-mile trail rings the
top of the sinkhole, leading you through habitats very different
than what you'll find elsewhere.
The hiking in central Florida includes Florida Trail, Ocala
National Forest, Tibet-Butler Preserve, Eureka Springs, Disney
Wilderness Preserve, Black Hammock Wilderness Area, and Eureka
Springs established in 1938, by amateur botanist and world
traveler Albert Greenburg. Years later, he started the first
tropical fish farm in Florida in the springs, and in 1967 donated
the 31-acre site to the county. Construction of the Tampa Bypass
Canal ruined the hydrology of the springs, so they rarely ever
flow�but the gardens remain. They include the largest publicly
owned collection of ferns in Florida, a rose garden, and an
orchid room, as well as boardwalks winding through a lush
floodplain forest of maples, cypresses, and tupelo.
The hiking in south Florida includes Florida Trail, Pahokee to
Port Mayaca, Harney Pond Canal Boardwalk, LaBelle Nature Park,
and Ortona Mounds. These hiking places are rich with natural
beauty, and they offer a world of opportunity to those
individuals who enjoy the great outdoors.
