Historic Hawai‘i Foundation invites you to take an exclusive tour of the Hospital Point Neighborhood at Pearl Harbor Naval Base made possible by Forest City, the Navy and the residents of Hospital Point. The tour takes place on January 16th departing at 10 a.m. and returning at 1 p.m.
About Hospital Point
On December 7, 1941 during the attack on Pearl Harbor, the USS Nevada ran aground at Hospital Point in order to avoid being sunk in the channel, and blocking all access to the harbor. But, there was much more happening in the Hospital Point neighborhood on that day. Doctors and nurses living and working in the area treated thousands of wounded at the base’s main hospital located there. A Japanese plane crashed just behind the hospital’s lab and catching a nearby house on fire.
The medical functions of the base are no longer centered at Hospital Point, but the historic homes and several original hospital buildings remain a part of the active Navy base. As such, they are not typically accessible by the public.
