Did you know that historic properties used for commercial purposes can qualify for a 50% property tax exemption from the City and County of Honolulu?
To learn more about this tax exemption program, please attend Historic Hawai‘i Foundation’s free seminar on Tuesday, August 12, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hawaii National Bank, 45 N. King Street. Lunch and training materials are provided. Pre-registration is required. Please email All...@historichawaii.org or call 523-2900 to register.
The city program provides for a 50% reduction in real property tax for historic buildings dedicated for preservation, provided that the property owner commits to a 10 year maintenance plan that preserves the historic character of the building. The deadline for applying for the exemption is September 1, to go into effect the following tax year.
The seminar will provide an overview of the tax exemption program, the eligibility requirements and the expectations for the maintenance plan. Those who decide to apply for the exemption are invited to stay for a more detailed work session following the overview. Both sessions of the seminar are free.
Please feel free to circulate the attached flier to any other party who may be interested in learning more about the program.
