Greetings Cubmasters,
I'd like to shed a little bit of information on the upcoming Cuboree as I know a many of you have questions.
First off the site. The event will be held at the TSU Agricultural Extension Farm, the same place the Fall Boy Scout Camporee was held at and various Scouting functions in the past. The area we will be using will be mowed down by the facility, along with Porta Potties and handwashing stations set up in various locations. There will not be any electricity, but there will be potable water through spickets that can be accessed on the way into the campsite (it's all city water, so it won't be brown or red). There will be fires allowed in the campsites, but the only condition by the facility is that they are put out prior to leaving (we are all scouts of course). There is a limited amount of firewood at the facility, so you may want to think about bringing some. Everyone will also be responsible for their own food for the weekend.
I've attached a list of activities that I will need help with staffing and bringing some materials. It isn't a whole lot, and the youth will mostly gravitate towards the shooting sports, so some areas will only need to be minimal supervision. Any more ideas for any activities would be welcome, and I will be able to work with whoever volunteers for a specific activity to make sure they have all of the information needed. I have also sent an e-mail to the Historical Cadet Corps to see if they would like to come out and perform a demonstration. They are a group of young men who reenact World War 2 army conditions, complete with blank firing of real period weapons. They came out for the Fall Camporee and have been a huge hit with the youth. Please please let me know what activity your pack would be able to help out with. If there is any pack who is planning on participating in the District Pinewood Derby on Saturday, the registration will take place from 12:30-1:30, with the Derby itself running from 1:30 to finish (run time approx. 1.5 hours).
I'd like to thank all of the Cubmasters for the service you provide to our youth. If you could also let me know if I have missed any Cubmasters from this list. I was only able to receive a partial district leadership roster, so any help passing this list to any Packs not included would be very much appreciated. I will be sending out another e-mail in a couple of days with a full schedule for the event including check in times on Friday. Please let me know if your Pack or Den is planning to attend, along with any activity or service you might be able to help out with. I have also included my contact information on the registration page, so if anyone has any questions or comments, please don't hesitate to contact me!
Yours in Scouting,
David Emery
