All,

The Iowa Open will kick off on Aug 27.  This is the premire event in Iowa.  The qualifying points are worth 1.5 times normal.  We usually pull in some great players for this event.  If you go to only one chess event this year this is the one for you!

The Iowa Open Tournament is in its 57th year and my goal to reach more than 150 entrants seems very possible with help from people like you.  Historically we have been around 110.  We need to set a new record this year!

We have had great players win the Open section of this event:

Boris Eliosov (IA)                                      2000

IM Michael Brooks (MO)                         2001

NM Pete Karagianis (IA)                         2002                        co-champion

David Nordahl (IA)                                  2002                        co-champion

Jose Gatica (KS)                                        2002                        co-champion

IM Stanislau Smiatankin (IL)                2003

IM Stanislau Smiatankin (IL)                2004

Jasmin Zulic (IA)                                       2005                        co-champion

Dan Vasto (IA)                                          2005                        co-champion

David Rocklin (IA)                                   2005                        co-champion

Robert Reynolds (IA)                              2005                        co-champion

NM  Jon Burgess (IL)                            2006                        co-champion

FM  Alex Betaneli (WI)                          2006                        co-champion

NM Pete Karagianis (IL)                        2007                        co-champion

Ryan Butros (IL)                                    2007                        co-champion

FM  Sean Nagle (MN)                          2009

NM Pete Karagianis (IA)                     2009

Robert Reynolds (IA)                           2010

Many, many others have played in this spectacular event.  As you can see from the number of co-champions this event is not easily won.  This is Iowa’s premiere Chess Event!  Come be a part of it!

The site for the tournament is nice location right off of Interstate 80 (NE side of exit 246).  This is 4 hours from Chicago, 5 hours from Minneapolis, 4.5 hours from St. Louis, and 4.5 hours from Omaha.  Free parking to all who enter the tournament.  The hotel has a nice pool and restaurant.  Iowa City and Coralville have many things for the family to do including a large outlet mall located only 10 minutes away from the hotel.

If you or anybody you talk to have questions please do not hesitate to call.  An answering machine is available when I am not.
