Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the garden agreement. I've seen
this agreement as sort of a constitution, with any implementing rules
to come later. I think that we're well on the way to a basic set of
understandings that will guide a lot of the decisions on garden
management.
There are a few tweaks that I'd like to suggest. For ease of review
they're shown in the Rev 2 file in the File section of the group site
in an underlined and overstruck format that I hope everyone can read.
In general, the Development Co. is very interested in seeing this get
off to a good start, but would hope that the garden will set as a goal
to be self governing and self-sustaining in its day to day activities.
Here's the reasoning behind my suggestions, by item number:
9. Clarifies that mulch will be provided by the Development Co. for
initial garden development.
12. We'll have to insert later the name of whatever entity ultimately
supplies the land.
15. It would be good to have a portion of the garden set aside for
school children, perhaps as shown in the August garden plot example
posted in the File section.
1. To say "all" marketing materials may not be what was intended, but
the garden can be referred to as an organic community garden where
it's appropriate to do that.
4. Development Co. will provide the initial fencing, but would expect
the garden to assume maintenance.
5. Same thing on providing water to the garden. No one knows know
how many hose bibs, etc. will be needed until the garden's laid out,
but an adequate system will be provided. Gardeners should pay the
monthly water bill as they'll be determining how much will be used and
will be benefiting from it. As a sustainable garden, if someone is
overwatering I think it's incumbent on the group to educate him/her to
bring usage back in line.
8. Just wanted to clarify that since it's located on a development
parcel, the pavilion will not always be there. What takes its place
and how that will be accomplished will have to be determined later.
11. If the garden is successful and seen as a good thing it would make
sense to do more. But guaranteeing that land will be available in the
future can't be done now and probably isn't fair to future CDD
boards. As this agreement pertains to this garden and not future ones
and as future gardens are somewhat performance based I think # 11
unnecessarily complicates things and isn't needed for this agreement.
You're all doing a great job! I'm looking forward to seeing the first
carrots. Thanks!
