How would one go about getting CPT codes from a text file into WV EHR
in a Cache environment? As close to a plain English explination is
appreciated as I'm not an M programmer.

thank you.

I would start with Chapter 14 in the Advanced User manual.

You have to use the ones from the VOE project at least to get started.

If you are putting it into a GT.M/Linux system, the file may have control
characters in it that will make it truncate early so talk to me before you
put it in.

He can't do this that way, Skip. There are special files from the VA to do
that were sold by the AMA. They need to be installed in concert with the
Lexicon files that complement them if you follow the strong recommendations
from the VA domain experts.

I sent an email to Jennifer....@ama-assn.org yesterday (Feb. 2,
2009). This is the procedure documented for ordering CPT files that
can be loaded into VistA VOE on the AMA page
https://catalog.ama-assn.org/Catalog/product/product_detail.jsp?productId=prod740044?checkXwho=done.

A couple of questions occur to me here:

1. If this is the only way to get CPT codes that will load into VistA
VOE and it seems to depend on one person, is this a reliable procedure
in the long run? This has become an obstacle to my progress at this
point to in my goal of setting up a system I can demo to a doctor. How
long should I expect to wait before I receive a response from
Jennifer?

2. If the only CPT code files you can get with this method are only as
recent as 2006, is this a problem? It seems to me, a relative novice
at all this, that CPT codes are at the core of what needs to be done
with a system like this and need to be up to date. If we can't get the
most recent codes into the system, is this a 'show stopper'?

Any comments and advice appreciated.

This is a problem that many of us have been working on for 3 years and I think
it is close to a solution. In the meanwhile, you can purchase the 2006 codes
from the AMA as a stopgap measure.
