Hi Everyone,

I took the Lead safe certification class with Mosby Building Arts last
week, and thought you ALL should be aware of this, if you provide any
renovation services... this WILL apply to you.

New Lead Paint Rules
Common HPwES activities like window replacement, sanding, cutting, and
demolition can disturb lead-based paint, which can be harmful to
adults and particularly children. To protect against this risk, EPA
issued a rule requiring the use of lead-safe practices (April 22,
2008) and took other actions aimed at preventing lead poisoning. Under
the rule, beginning in April 2010, contractors involved in renovation,
repair, and painting projects that may disturb more than six square
feet of lead-based paint in homes, child care facilities, and schools
built before 1978 must be certified and follow specific work practices
to prevent lead contamination. Certification applications are
available at http://www.epa.gov/lead/pubs/toolkits.htm.
It is important to note that this rule applies to ALL contractors; not
just those participating in HPwES programs. However, this new rule is
particularly relevant to HPwES contractors, as homes built prior to
1978 are typically inefficient and may be targeted for Home
Performance jobs.
