Rooted in Community. Registration is now open for the Rooted in Community 2010 National Conference – focusing on youth, food systems and social justice.
The conference will take place July 21 – July 25 in Durham, NC, hosted by SEEDS Educational Garden, The Stone House, Anatoth Community Garden and Wayne Food Initiative. You can find the Registration Forms and full information at www.rootedincommunity.org on the Events Page. Fees can be paid using the “Donate to RIC” button on the home page of the website.
Let’s Move: First Lady Michelle Obama joined Domestic Policy Council Director Melody Barnes and members of the Childhood Obesity Task Force to unveil the Task Force action plan: Solving the Problem of Childhood Obesity Within a Generation. In conjunction with the release of the action plan, Cabinet Members and Administration Officials will hold events across the country to highlight the importance of addressing childhood obesity.
USDA on Local Food Systems: USDA Economic Research Service has just released a new report entitled: "Local Food Systems: Concepts, Impacts and Issues”. This comprehensive overview of local food systems explores alternative definitions of local food, estimates market size and reach, describes the characteristics of local consumers and producers, and examines early indications of the economic and health impacts of local food systems
