YOUTH INTERNSHIP PROGRAM CONSULTANT

City Slicker Farms, a non-profit urban farming program in West Oakland, California is seeking a qualified consultant to develop our youth internship program (ages 13-23). The consultant will be developing curriculum, producing outreach materials, producing evaluation materials, training staff, and leading the first cohort of youth interns. The length of the work is approximately five months.
DESCRIPTION
Curriculum Development
· Develop a curriculum for West Oakland youth interns to work within City Slicker Farms programs. Youth participate eight hours per week for three – four months. Emphasis is on food justice, urban farming, and community outreach and events.
· Develop age-appropriate curriculum for youth involved in our volunteer program and field trip program.
· Connect with other like-minded nonprofits and the City of Oakland Department of Parks and Recreation to coordinate shared internship opportunities
Outreach Development
· Develop an outreach calendar
· Develop outreach materials, with a specific emphasis on West Oakland youth
Evaluation
· Update City Slicker Farms’ youth intern evaluation materials
· Develop an evaluation implementation schedule
Staff Training
· Train staff on how to implement curriculum, outreach, and evaluation
· Provide basic trainings on how to work with youth of various ages
· Delegate the youth internship responsibilities to staff
Youth Internship
· Work with staff to outreach for the first round of youth interns
· Interview and select first round of youth interns
· Work with staff to train and supervise first round of youth interns
· Work with youth interns to coordinate a community event
Qualifications:
· 4+ years working with and supervising youth
· 2 + years curriculum and evaluation development
· 2+ years working in food justice or urban gardening/farming related programs
· 2+ years training/teaching experience
· 2+ years youth outreach experience
· Extensive experience working with a diverse group of people (age, race, gender, ethnicity, economic status) in low-income urban settings
· Attention to detail and solid follow-through
· Excellent communication skills
· Ability to build rapport with youth
· Outgoing and friendly with the public
· Experience with the West Oakland community is preferred
· Have your own computer and ability to work at home or at our office
Work Timeline:
· Approximately five months, to start in April or early May
