Friends === I am passing along a note from the Alameda County WIC Program Director. WIC Offices ARE OPEN during the government shutdown. Please help spread the word. Thanks, Diane

Dear Community Partners,
We'd like to keep you updated about how the shutdown is affecting our WIC services. Below is the latest communication from the State.

"The California Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program is a federally-funded state program, staffed by California State employees of the CA Department of Public Health as well as contracts with local government and non-profit agencies who operate the local WIC clinics. State and local agency employees are working and will not be furloughed due to the federal government shutdown.
The California WIC program has funds available to continue to operate normally through October. CDPH will continually monitor program activities and evaluate the situation. All efforts will be made to ensure that the women and children enrolled in WIC will continue to receive vouchers for food.
Currently, WIC clinics are open to issue vouchers for food and offer educational support for nutrition and breastfeeding. WIC participants can receive and redeem vouchers for food, and authorized retailers will continue to receive payments for food provided.
This information will be updated as necessary.

Thank you.
Lisa Kawano
Acting Division Chief
Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program CA Department of Public Health"

We'll update you as we get more information ourselves.
