Subject: Paradise Community Garden: See what's growing on in September!

Friends of the Paradise Community Garden,

We are excited to announce our next speaker for the upcoming Open House at the garden!

Join us on Saturday September 7th 10 AM to 3 PM and learn about Horticultural Therapy

Plants and Their Superpowers with Mary Purpura, HTR. Presentation starts at 11 AM.

See our attached flyer.

Also read this wonderful article on The Power of Flowers: Link

As always we will have snacks and food to share and our favorite vendors will be there as well.

Bring your friends and family and help us reach wider audience by sharing with your friends!

Here are September gardening tips. We are lucky to live in an area where one can garden year-round!

  • Harvest continuously for more production
  • Pick herbs and lavender mid-morning for drying
  • Pinch out side shoots on tomatoes, support branches
  • Keep spent blossoms cut off to encourage bloom
  • Hoe, cultivate and pull weeds
  • Prepare beds for fall crops by adding organic matter
  • Sow cover crops
  • Mulch to suppress weeds and conserve water
  • Keep compost piles damp, and turn often

Time to Plant:

SOW IN FLATS: broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, collards, kale, lettuce.

SOW DIRECT: kale, lettuce, spinach, leeks, mustard, bunching onions, peas, chard, celery, turnips, carrots, beets, parsnip, radish,  potatoes, bush beans, chives, parsley, cilantro, dill.

TRANSPLANT: broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, collards, kale, leeks, mustard, bunching onions, peas, lettuce, spinach, chard, celery.

See you September 7th!
