WHAT: "Federal Transportation Planning for Public Health: How to Win Reform" co-sponsored by California Pan-Ethnic Health Network (CPEHN) and Transportation for America
Learning Objectives for Participants from the Public Health Field:
· Able to describe how strategic planning in the transportation sector can impact public health.
· Able to name one key federal transportation planning reform that would improve public health.
· Able to explain how transportation sector strategic planning at the federal level intersects and adds value to state and regional strategic planning efforts in California, such as SB375.
· Able to identify one way your organization can get involved in building support for federal strategic planning in the transportation sector.
· Able to describe one lesson learned about
how to communicate regarding the interface between federal transportation
policies and public health with transportation officials, reporters, or
Congressional district staffers.
WHO: This training is intended for those who
work in the public health field on issues such as the built environment,
obesity prevention, nutrition/physical activity promotion, walking and
bicycling safety promotion, asthma prevention, air quality improvement, social
justice, and equity.
WHEN: Monday, September 19, 8:30am - 4pm.
WHERE: 668 13th Street, Nile Hall, Preservation Park,
Oakland. It’s
near "12th Street Oakland City Center" BART Station's
13th Street exit, near major AC Transit bus
lines, and about a 25-minute walk or 10-minute bicycle ride from the Amtrak "Jack London
Square" stop on the Capitol Corridor (3 bicycles are allowed per train
car). If you must drive, parking is $14/day at City Center West Garage at 12
Street and Martin Luther King, Jr., Way. A site map and directions with BART
and bicycle and car parking information are attached.
NOTES: The training is free and lunch is included. A more detailed agenda will be
released the week of August 29.
