Events of Interest to HKonJ OC Partners

Monday, June 1, 2009 – Sunday, June 7, 2009

Chapel Hill Community Visioning Forums

Chapel Hill residents are invited to attend community forums intended to both inform and gather public comment on community values and future growth. The information will assist the Sustainable Community Visioning Task Force, a group of volunteer citizens appointed by the Town Council to prepare recommendations on what growth should look like over the next 10 years. Although the 18-member task force has no black, Latino or Asian members, UNC-NOW advocate, Rob Stephens encourages attendance at the meetings. "The Wednesday meeting at Hargraves would be a great meeting to attend, but any of the others would be just as important." See schedule of meetings in this flyer.

Together NC Press Event on the Budget

More than 80 groups will unite on Tuesday to send state lawmakers a message: preserving public investment in North Carolina is worth raising much-needed revenues.
Closing North Carolina's budget gap with cuts alone will devastate the state's neediest families, the groups say, and will deepen and prolong the recession as well. A balanced approach that includes strategic tax increases along with judicious cuts is the best way to protect working families and avoid prolonging the recession. Send Gov. Perdue and your legislative representatives a message.

Together NC Town Hall Meeting

North Carolina's state government faces a large budget shortfall. It is critical that elected officials hear from folks in their communities about the importance of public programs and services so they can make budget decisions that support communities and families and do not undermine the state's economic recovery. The institutions North Carolina families rely on — education, health care, unemployment insurance, housing assistance, just to name a few — are in jeopardy this year. Together NC is sponsoring Town Hall meetings around the state dealing with revenue issues. Learn more about Together NC.
