Please photocopy your students Math Club work

Dear Math Club Families:

I have received the following emails from HH Poole's principal, Mr.
Daniels and HH Poole's Focus (Gifted) Coordinator, Mrs. Toth. (see
below)

They are under the impression that we have not been using the
MathCounts curriculum for our meetings, and using it as justification
for denying our students the opportunity to compete in the MathCounts
competition. Please forward them photocopies of your child's
MathCounts problems sand accompanying work that they have been working
on since this summer. I think it would help the situation.

Mr. Leigh,

Ms. Toth's response is an accurate reflection of our discussion as
well as decision not to participate in the MathCounts competition this
year. As stated, the money for registration is not an issue. We
don't feel that our students will be adequately prepared for
competition due to limited access of curriculum thus far. I would
like to see our students resume participation next year by preparing
at the start of the year. At the same time, I also feel it's
important for them to have fun and enjoy the activities you prepare.
Please know that we are extremely grateful for you time and service.
I hope you will understand and agree that this decision is in the best
interest of the students.

Hi Matt,
I will have an announcement about math club being canceled tonight.
I spoke to Mr. Daniel about the MathCounts competition. Together the
decision was made for HHP not to participate in the competition this
year. Although there are budgetary issues, the more important issue is
that the students have not done any preparation for the competition.
I know that Gayle Middle School begins preparing for the competition
in September and works on the MathCounts' curriculum to prepare. In
the past, when HHP has participated in the competition, we also began
our preparation in September with the specific curriculum.
I believe the students will not be adequately prepared and will not be
competitive in this competition. We take pride in representing our
school, and it is more important that our students are prepared.
I hope you understand our position. I know the students enjoy being
part of the math club and enjoy the activities you prepare. I know you
wanted the students to enjoy math, and I believe you are truly making
math enjoyable for them.

I will not be able to make it to math club today, and neither
assistant coach will be able to make it either. Thus, we are canceling
math club for today.

You mentioned on an earlier email that the school will not support
MathCounts this year. Will you please elaborate on the reasons, and
whether we could do it on our own?
