moderators will include these announcements in the next digest sent to
the full HDSC listserv on a weekly to bi-weekly basis.

October 15: MEDICAL ACTIVISM: THEN AND NOW

Boston University American Medical Student Association (AMSA) and the
Committee of Interns and Residents presents:

A multi-generational panel of physicians and medical students will
reflect on the role activism plays in their medical careers and
discuss the importance of activism in medicine today.

Panelists include:
Michael Grodin, MD (Professor of Bioethics, Human Rights, Philosophy,
and Psychiatry; Department of Health Law, Bioethics and Human Rights
at Boston University)
Joia Mukherjee, MD, MPH (Medical Director Partners in Health, Director
of Institute for Health and Social Justice, Assistant Professor at
Harvard Medical School)
Felton Earls, MD (Professor of Social Medicine at Harvard Medical
School, Professor of Human Behavior and Development at the Harvard
School of Public Health )
Jay Bhatt, DO (PGY1 at Cambridge Health Alliance, CIR member and past

October 21 – COMMUNITY VOICES PUBLIC PRESENTATION

6:00-8:00 PM

Cabral Center, John D. O'Bryant African–American Institute,
Northeastern University
40 Leon Street - Boston, MA

This reception and public presentation will welcome health care
workers, educators, artists, politicians, and community members to
engage with the students' writing, photographs, research, and oral
histories on health disparities in the community. The student-led
presentation will explore a variety of health equity issues including
obesity and diabetes; immigrant health; and maternal and child health.

Community Voices is a program that aims to address health disparities
in Boston and to motivate low-income students of color to pursue
careers in the health professions. The interdisciplinary program
pairs a didactic curriculum of health, photography and journalism with
