Publishing on Amazon

Hi Jurgen,

I'm trying to upload the book to the Amazon Store.

I tried to upload the word file but the conversation was not good, then I tried to upload the PDF file, but results were worse =(

Jurgen, what did you do in order to get the book to the kindle format? Did you use a tool? Could you please give me an advice about that?

I'm asking in the Google Group, because I think it might be useful to the other translators as well.

Hello,

For the format, I have an answer and some questions.

On Kindle Publishing service of Amazon, I have uploaded the Word document (.docx). It create a mobi file I have tested on my Kindle. It's readable but clearly the layout from Word is not adapted :(

It's the same problem with ePub format on Lulu.com

So; for a begining, I will use PDF format on Lulu. 

After that, I think the best solution is maybe to use leanpub and make a total reformat of the file.

But the less time consuming solution is to keep the problematic layout and sell it like this.

For the price of the book, it's maybe a not so bad solution :)

Jurgen, what do you think ? the translation could have some flaws or must it be perfect ? :D

Nothing can be perfect.

Just start with PDF and wait for people to ask questions about other formats. Maybe they don't.

I'd to share my experience on Publishing at Amazon.com Kindle.

1. Microsoft Word indexes do not convert to ePub on KDP, but you can use hyperlinks to make it work:

2. To fix the bad formatting, you can download a Zip File (generated by KDP) with all the ePub HTML of the Converted Book and the images inside, then you can fix things the way you want and then upload it back to KDP.
