SE College has childcare. There is an age minimum, but it is up to the student to look into the service and its parameters. You can help them find the information on the college web site, or go to the information desk to find out.
The WC is not a childcare facility, and small children create a disruption, just as they do in the classroom. If someone brings their children to the WC, you should tell them to reschedule and arrange for childcare on campus or elsewhere.
I’m open to further thoughts – but it seems as if we need to start limiting distractions. II never had a problem with students studying in the WC, but the priority is students seeking tutoring assistance – anything that disrupts or diminishes that should be avoided. There are computers elsewhere on campus, there is childcare, there are lounges – it seems are prime location comes with liabilities. But we can work all that out – let’s discuss the problems we’re seeing, and come up with the best solutions that allow us to serve students most effectively.
Yours,
Robert Lunday, Ph.D.
