Hi Jay, I will be coming back into town late June 11th. If needed I can probably do the same area in Bloomfield that Jan and I did last year, which was in the center of town a little park (on 189 near the center, with a little pond) and there was a cemetery up on the hill to the west of the center of Bloomfield (about a mile or less from center).

Subject: {HASnotes} Summer Bird Count
Greeting HAS Birders!
We are now two weeks away form the Hartford Summer Bird Count, a weekend affair that will take place June 11th-12th using the same circle that is used for the Christmas Bird Count, a fifteen diameter circle emanating from the Old State House in downtown Hartford. Unlike last year, when we had record participating in the Summer Count (SBC) courtesy of the pandemic, things have changed in 2021. i already know of several long rime captains who will be away and unable to participate. I am now putting out a call for birders to particpate for part or all of one day, or for the entire weekend. Our circle includes a wide variety of habitats from the extensive woodlands of the SWest Hartford Reservoir system to the wetland habitats along the Connecticut River. An added bonus of doing the Count is that breeding confirmations made during the Count can be submitted to the ongoing Connecticut Breeding Bird Atlas project, now in its final breeding season. Can we confirm such secretive species as least bittern or blue-winged teal. Can we find such elusive warblers as worm-eating and black-throated green in the Reservoir land?
Our success on the SBC is dependent upon birders getting out there and canvassing our circle. If you are interested in participating, please contact me, and I will give you an area to cover, or put you in touch with one of our area captains who are responsible for coverage in certain towns. I will provide a list of the captains at the end of next week. The circle includes all of Hartford, East Hartford and West Hartford; and portions of Windsor, Bloomfield, Avon and Farmington, Newington, Wethersfield and Rocky Hill, Glastonbury, Manchester and South Windsor. Many birders can simply bird their neighborhoods if they live in the area. Others can venture into the Rocky Hill Meadows, the bottomlands of the Hockanum River in East Hartford or the many woodland areas throughout the circle.
On this Count, we count all birds including the crows! Bird for an hour or a full day. Go out looking for owls in the early morning or singing thrushes at dusk. Bird a little on either or both days. We need your help this year! We are dedicating the 2021 Summer Bird Count and the December Christmas Bird Countto Gil Kleiner, who recently passed away. Gil was captain of the Windsor section of our Count for more years than I can remember.
Additional information is available by emailing me at jayb...@aol.com or by calling or texting me at 860-7075246 (cell). Hopefully, the weather warms up a bit by then!
Best in Birding,
