All HANA members and Hillsoborough County Community Associations:

Tom Jones and I (Richard McLaurin) met this AM to discuss the latest
note from Dick Spears. It appears that none of the bills are going in a
direction we would like, and constantly evolving. There are many
different issues and they keep changing. How to cope? How do you see
each change and then respond to it?

Tom and I think we would like to try a different tack. We propose that
we make up a list of things we want and don't want to be in these or
any other bills and get the list to the legislators. We also feel we
need to do this with lots of support from the HOA's arriving with this
statement. The legislators need to know what we consider good and bad
for our neighborhoods.

Please let us know what you think. Next I will put up some thoughts we
had on what we should say we want and don't want.

Richard

The following are some rough initial thoughts (primarily from Tom) on
what we want and don't want to see in bills, not necessarily in this
order:

1. There has to be some defined benefits to the management of the
association, not benefits for special interests.

2. No unreasonable increase in administrative costs.

3. Do not add to or duplicate existing administrative procedures.

4. Do not restrict the ability of the board members to make business
decisions.

5. Do not change the provisions in the governing documents without
association members approval as stated in the provisions.

6. No provisions that are punitive in nature to the association
management.

7. No provision that hinders volunteers in fulfilling their fiduciary
responsibilities to their association members.

We invite you to send us other thoughts to in...@myhana.org.

Richard:

Please add to our list the following:

No provisions that ae punitive to just Condo's or Homeowners'
Associations. There should be no restrictions placed on Associations
that are more strigent than those normally associated with standard
business practices for other corporations.

Tom
