We have been told that some years ago, the water of the 4th Ave/
Jefferson St well flowed into a small cistern (demolished when the
city acquired the parking lot) about 40 feet north of the present
pipe.

Does anybody know the actual date when the outflow pipe was moved to
its present location?

Thanks.

Jim Ingersoll or Nadine Romero would probably know.

I believe that around the time Ecology wanted to find out if the pipe
had a valve, the line was dug up and the current well head was found.
The line was abandoned and the current outlet established. According
to the the FOTA history (http://www.oly-wa.us/artesians/History.php)
that would have around November 2007, after a car hit the pipe and
damaged it.

the "outflow pipe" IS the well head. The well head had to be
established at the very beginnin gof the Friends of Artesians efforts
to have any talking relationship with DOH and Ecology. The well fed a
line that traveled around the parking lot to the small cistern. Once
the well head was established Nadine Romero sent a camera down the
pipe to research the conditionof the pipe and how deep the well was
etc.. That locating and sleuthing work was done nearly 20 years in
the first two years of the efforts by Friends of Artesians.

No, when the car hit the pipe, it had already been established years
earlier as the well head and the valve which does exist under ground,
had been discovered and tested to be sure it worked.

Ask the city how to reach Emmitt Dobie who was in charge of city
utilities at the time we searched the parking lot to locate the lines
and trace the pipes back to the existing well head. Victoria Decillo
can also contribute to finding Emmitt possibly. Emmitt and his team
of workers dug up the pipe at it's current location and found the
valve. The city provided the nice copper pipe that has been there now
for over 15 years.
