The picture is of the condition of the well at the time H2Olympia took
over advocating after Friends of Artesians disbanded.
I always comment that the condition of the well area at the time was
kind of an "urban decay" motif.
I had a nice conversation with those who knew Rachel Corrie that one
of the things her group did was to sleep at the location of well heads
in Rafah in order to keep them from being closed to the public. I
think that is SO telling. There, as well as here (perhaps universally)
wells are a defining aspect of the community.
