Matthew 馬太福音 13:24-43; Romans 羅馬書 8:18-25
It never has come to my attention about how many words are there in the Chinese language for the English word, weed, as a noun. There are more for the verb, wee. 我從沒有助益過英語裡面的 weed 這個名詞在中文裡面竟有那麼多字。動詞更多:荑/耪/耘/拔草/麃/鋤/穮/薙。
It might be due to the tradition of the agricultural culture. It might be due to the social culture of people-selection. We all have been taught to select friends carefully to make sure they would be beneficial to us. 這可能跟傳統的農業文化有關。也可能跟「挑選人」的社會文化有關。我們都曾被教導說要慎重選擇朋友,確定朋友都對我們自己有益。
I don't remember being taught, in schools, to be a beneficial friend to others. 我卻不記得在學校裡學習過如何成為他人的益友。
Fortunately, as a Christian, that is what we learn through church life. 幸虧,我們,做為基督徒,在教會生活裡就是在學習這些招。

The hymn-briefing 11 for #722, "In the bulb"
can be previewed partially here. It takes several runs to really get into the comprehension and receive the edification of a hymn.
第11期的聖詩簡介可以在這裡局部預覽。每一首聖詩都需要研讀好幾次才可能開始進入狀況,感受並接受那聖詩的感化。
It is a very rare and precious occasion that a congregation gets to sing two songs with different cultural backgrounds for the same poem, two Sunday in a row. It was not planned until Pastor Aline realized that the hymn I select from her list of possible hymns was not the one she has in mind. She asked me if we could sing the one she found from the "Glory to God", the latest hymnal of the PC(USA) which was not in her list for this coming Sunday. 這是一個非常難得又珍貴的情況 -- 一個教會竟然能在連續的兩個主日裡用兩首部同文化背景的歌唱出同一首詩。直到
愛鄰牧師發現上個主日所唱的聖詩不在她所熟悉,列為上週選項的清單裡面,這不在原來為19日列出的選歌清單中。
This becomes a new challenge of the week, not only because a new set of slide images has to be created but also I did not have any feeling about how to interpret the lyrics and the music. The music is very simple and almost formularized, almost like a student's homework for a composition course. The lyrics also follows a pattern and uses almost none action verb. It is not praising but some reminding sentences about the phenomena in our world. It ends with the same sentence accepting a fact that we don't have a chance because "God alone can", even though it emphasizes "hope" implicitly.
It is obviously a mystery that some words came to wake me up shortly after 3 am after I went to bed worrying about what to say about this hymn. Now I understand that this is a hymn that every congregation-between-pastors need to sing and learn. It reminds us that timing involves all the processes. Darkness and brightness appear intermittently. Do we know how to wait for and capture the revelation from above?
上午三點鐘過後,居然在腦中出現一些話這真的是一項奧秘,那是我在操心著怎麼解釋這首聖詩的情況下去睡覺之後的事情。現在我知道這是一首每個「尋牧中」的教會所需要唱,而且研讀,的聖詩。這首聖詩提醒我們,「時機」藏在每個程序之中。「暗」與「明」是交互出現的。我們曉不曉得如何等候,並捕捉從上面來的啟示?
Isn't this some kind of wonder? 你說妙不妙?
Now, try to watch the video in this playlist before we actually start the hymn-briefing tomorrow morning. The final version might be different. Do you believe that God might allow us to preview before the time is up? 現在試著在明天早上正式開始簡介之前先預覽這裡面的影片,相不相信上帝可能容許我們在時機成熟前「先知」一番?
