I was 19, sitting in a small cubicle in Bainbridge Maryland studying a
pile of books on nuke subs for 12 hours a day.
I kept smelling the most wonderful aroma... yes, we could smoke nearly
everywhere back then. Finally, after weeks of smelling this stuff I had
enough. I tracked down the source of the smell and bought the pipe and
tobacco from the guy.
Now, some 30 years later, I still enjoy my pipe. For many years I had a
pipe in my mouth nearly constantly. There are a few in the bilges of a
few old nuke boats. I've cut back a lot in recent years, but still
count pipe smoking as one of the great pleasures of life... I want a
bowl now.
