Hi guys!
I was wondering, is it higher quality and cheaper to build a greenhouse
from scratch or to buy one? If anyone has some websites that has the
material necessary to build one or if they have a website that has
cheap greenhouses.

Thanks,
Dylan

Here in the Philippines we just build our greenhouses.  We just buy the materials needed and build it. That is becoz there are no ready made ones here.

What materials do you use for the actual greenhouse so it actually can
keep the warmth in in the winter?

Hi there,
We have 26x48 greenhouse and were originally going to build it our selves but have found that we were better off just to get a kit. After we put in the expenses of labor along with every thing else it was out of our price and time range. I do recommend building one your self if you have the time to do so but if you are going to be making an income with it I might consider a kit. These are the folks we received ours from and they are great people who have been incredibly helpful with every thing we have needed. Patrick is who we have dealt with. It would also be a good idea to find a place that is close even if they have a good price on a greenhouse the shipping can kill you. We decided to go with a Gothic arch type of house but depending on your location you may not need or want this kind.

In regards to a hydro system check out what crops you will be growing they like different types of watering. a great book to look at is Hydroponic Food Production by Howard M. Resh, Ph.D.
I would not buy a kit they are simple to make if you have the time to make them and far cheaper it all depends on what you are growing and how much of it you are producing. As to what type of system you will need to build if it is small, a few simple timers, a little piping and 5gal buckets go a long way. if you are going to have a big operation you might want to look into a brain to help control your system but we are growing 95 tomato plants and 2 bed that are 4ft x 40ft of herbs and we have managed to do it with out a fully automated system. Your really get to know your plants and I feel you keep them a lot happier that way especilay starting out. ( We are also on the farm every day most of the day:) There are allot of considerations but it is a great way to live.
Good luck.

Have you considered building a passive solar green house? One of the
best benefits is you reduce home heating bill and your greenhouse runs
year round producing veggies for the kitchen table. Try a search on
amazon or ebay for "The Solar greenhouse book"

If your handy with tools then building is the only way to go. Once you
have decided on the plans then it's just a matter of going to the
hardware and lumber stores for the project materials.
