I'm new to hydroponics, and when I told a friend I was going to try, he
cautioned me as to the taste of hydroponic tomatoes. Seems that if you
buy hydroponic tomatoes in the grocery store, there is a percieved bias
against it because of a lack of taste. I'm assuming that is because
the 'maters are picked green. What is everyone's experience as far as
taste of homegrown vine-ripened hydro-tomatoes and commercial
hydro-tomatoes?

I'm putting two 24 x 48 hoophouse to try hydroponics in. I'm
interested in aquaponics but will try to grow with hydroponics first
and see if it pans out or not. Thanks for any input.

Properly grown hydroponic tomatoes are better than any soil ones Ive ever had.

The key is .. properly.

I was told the same thing this spring when I started my first hydro
experiment. Members of a local garden club warned me of the poor taste
of hydro anything. My experiement included the same variety - grown
from the same seed in my garden and in a hydro system in my office (I
have large east and southwest windows). The taste was identical, and
very good in this case.

Alan:

Are you building your greenhouses yourself or will you have someone
else do them? Where did you find the plan for your greenhouses? I am
interested in building a 24 X 36 greenhouse to "hobby" in. I'd like to
grow some peppers, tomatoes, lettuce and basil.

Once all of these veggies are grown, where can they be sold?

Do you have any ideas on that?

Good for you, It is amazing that there are still skeptics concerning hydroponics. Good for you and good luck in your hydro growing experiences. Tess

Totally agree Bob,
I have just got into hydroponics and I must say I am really amazed at
the results it gave me. I used to grow in soil, but I really don't
think I will bother with soil again.

Don't get me wrong, I have always done pretty well with soil, but it
does not compare with the crop that I know I can get with hydro. I must
admit that at first I was a bit worried about getting into hydroponics,
it sounded really scary and too technical so I am so glad that a friend
convinced me to give it a go. He has been shopping with
Aquaculture-hydroponics for years and told me about their website.

He told me that he they would have what they need to start me off. I am
currently using their NFT starter kit -which I must admit my friend
is helping me use- but I hope to upgrade and grow more plants as soon
as I have more knowledge.
