The Center for Biological Diversity is hosting a virtual panel discussion on Thursday, Sept. 25 at 12 p.m. PT / 3 p.m. ET with partners across the country who have used our Simplify the Holidays campaign to creatively tackle consumerism during the holiday season.

Now is the time to look ahead to the holidays and get a jumpstart on planning outreach and engagement activities to reduce waste, strengthen the local economy, and foster connection. From alternative gift fairs and a holiday leftovers recipe contest to alternative gift-wrapping workshops, we’re excited to offer this discussion to provide ideas you can try in your area this year.

Register here - https://act.biologicaldiversity.org/hjdIZFfhPEmYh5Tss7vCyA2to learn how you can bring this campaign to your community or campus for celebrations filled with more connection and less consumption.

The panelists:
  • Daniel Hiestand is the Lane County Waste Reduction Outreach Coordinator in Oregon, working to promote waste prevention and sustainability outreach and education throughout the county. He runs an annual holiday leftovers recipe contest.
  • Jennifer Knepper is a critical care/emergency nurse, the author of a book called “Food is Love,” owner of a small honey and beeswax business, and helps to coordinate the annual gift fair Gifts that Give Hope in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
  • Jackie Crenshaw is the board chair of SustainFloyd Foundation, an environmental nonprofit that hosts alternative gift-wrapping workshops each year as part of their work in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia.
