Hello Zero Waste Community,

We received information about a state grant opportunity that will provide start-up costs related to deposit-return systems for glass containers. This program aims to create a reusable glass beverage container processing stream within California to support a circular economy. I immediately thought of you!

Here’s a link to more information: Reusable Beverage Containers Infrastructure Grant Program (FY 2022-23) - California Grants Portal.

If interested in applying for this grant, Senator Cather Blakespear Blakespear may be interested in providing a letter of support.

Thank you,

Laura Anthony

Back in the last century there was a business, ENCORE, run by Peter Heylin and Dick Evans, that collected wine bottles, washed them and sold them to wineries around Central California.

That link should no longer be valid as it was for fiscal year 2022-2023 and the fund granted has been amended based on this link I found

Funding
$1,500,000 available for each fiscal year.
$275,000 is the maximum available for individual grant awards.
$75,000 is the minimum available for individual grant awards..

I found the current link from this link:

Someone will have to verify if it is valid.

I apologize for the confusion and addressed this to the Senator's representative. The link does say 2022-2023, which is an error (please ignore), but the grant is due on December 10, 2024.

Here is an updated link with more accurate information.
