Excited to share today's Associated Press article about how waste pickers and workers in the Global South are leading efforts to divert food waste from landfills by developing decentralized collection and composting structures in places like Manila, PH, Bahia, Brazil, and Durban, South Africa. BIG thanks and congratulations to the organizations whose work was featured in this article: Mother Earth Foundation, Instituto Pólis, MNCR, Urban Futures Centre, groundWork, and GAIA teams in several regions of the world.

GAIA members around the world have been building these collection and composting systems, and what we're really excited about with this article is that it portrays how waste pickers in the Global South, who are historically marginalized and underappreciated, are spearheading this essential climate solution. However there is still much to be done to elevate the importance of this effort and convince governments to give these communities the resources they need to scale.

We would be very grateful if you would share this article with your networks on social media!

Thanks, Monica
