Hi all,
Does anyone here have recent experience with truck scales?
I am assisting a university with a collection services procurement and the Office of Sustainability is asking to include truck scales in the specs for building-by-building tonnage reporting. My through-the-grapevine understanding is that they aren't very reliable, but maybe the problems with the technology have been solved with more recent developments. I would love to hear from someone that has firsthand experience with recent on-board truck scale tech.

Hi Jeremy;
The Get2Green Team for Fairfax County (VA) Public Schools has a dashboard for trash and recycling for each of their 200 schools, and some of the teachers are using this to measure their recycling efforts. Recycling Data Dashboard | FCPS Get2Green
I questioned the accuracy and methodology of the data, and G2G replied in an email that the Republic Services trucks that have the school contract were able to get the weight at each pick up. This means the trucks all have onboard scales. Republic Services garage is at 4619 West Ox Rd, Fairfax VA. The Get2Green website has a contact form, but the waste and recycling contract is done through the Fairfax County Public School Procurement Department.
