Plenary: "Zero Waste Systems Thinking"

Day 1 | October 25, 2023, 8:15 am PT

In this panel discussion, we will explore how government leadership, funding, and corporate decision making can support the transition to a circular economy. EPA leadership and funding opportunities will be revealed, designing for deconstruction will be discussed, as well as how environmental justice is shifting and how zero waste is supported through EPA programs. Concurrent Session: "Equity in Zero Waste Policy & Programs"

Day 2 | October 26, 2023, 1:45 pm PT

Our three session speakers will focus on specific topics in equity and Zero Waste. Marria will draw upon her experiences as a zero waste educator and community activist to give a brief overview of harm reduction and mutual aid, highlight successes of these models in action, and how zero waste, harm reduction, and mutual aid can be expanded.

Zen will share how a group of waste workers in the Mother Earth Foundation (MEF) Zero Waste Cities Network managed to have their group, the Malabon-Navotas Waste Workers Association be the first waste workers’ association in the country to be accredited and recognized by the Department of Labor and Employment.

Kelly will outline key steps in identifying disadvantaged communities, mapping businesses, providing boots-on-the-ground technical assistance, capturing community buy in, and building the associated data bases in her presentation, 'Helping Disadvantaged Communities Make the Switch to Reusable Foodware.'
