New Leaf Market invites you to attend NEWfare: A Forum Cultivating Health and Wealth through the Local Food Economy
Held Friday, Nov. 4th from 8am-2pm at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, Student Center, Room SC 128. The complete program and a mail-in registration form are attached. If you prefer, you can also register and pay online at: newleafmarket.org. Registration fee is $35 for the general public and $15 for students. Lunch of local food is included. The deadline for registration is Oct. 28.
Growing concerns about food-related health issues like childhood obesity and diabetes have led to increased demand for fresh, healthy and sustainable food. Come to NEWfare to hear how new local farm and food enterprises, such as farmers markets, community-supported agriculture, kitchen incubators, marketing co-ops, community gardens, and farm-to-school programs are meeting that demand. NEWfare is bringing together many of the farm and food entrepreneurs, health professionals and community food advocates who are at the forefront of these developments in Northeast Wisconsin to ask them what the next steps are in the formation of a sustainable local food system.
What new food system infrastructures do we need to develop? How can we create healthy food partnerships between producers and consumers and between urban and rural communities to make a sustainable local food system feasible? These are just a couple of the important questions that will be discussed at NEWfare . This will be an interactive forum. So, please join in with your strategies for improving access to healthy food and creating good jobs and livelihoods in a thriving local food economy. If you’re just learning about the links between community health and a sustainable food system and a thriving local food economy, bring your curiosity and concern.
