Subject: West Alton Baker Park Disc Golf Update
To: BJORKLUND Neil H <Neil.H.B...@ci.eugene.or.us>

The Eugene Parks and Open Space and Recreation Divisions continue to make progress toward the temporary disc golf course in West Alton Baker Park.  In early April of this year, we asked for your input on some proposed changes to the area approved for the temporary disc golf course.  We received quite a few emails, and we read them all and thought about and discussed the ideas presented.  The primary message was that many folks are excited to have a new venue for disc golf in Eugene. The key areas of discussion were south of Day Island Road, in the area at the south end of the open field that is used for parking for large events, as well as an area at the east end of this field, next to the road to the boat ramp (see map, attached).  Based upon the feedback we heard, we have amended the area approved for the disc golf course, to maximize the number of days on which disc golf can be played and to maximize the number of holes that can be played without conflicting with other permitted park uses.

The approved disc golf course area now includes the following three zones, as shown on the attached map:

Zone 1, shown in green, allows disc golf to be played every day that the course is open.

Zone 2, shown in blue, allows disc golf to be played every day the course is open, except on days of Cuthbert Amphitheater events and during Art in the Vineyard.

Zone 3, shown in purple, allows disc golf to be played every day the course is open, except on days of Cuthbert Amphitheater events, during Art in the Vineyard or during other events that require permitted parking in this area.  If Zone 2 is closed to disc golf, Zone 3 will also be closed.  Zone 3 may also be closed on days when Zone 2 is open, if permitted park events require event parking in that area.  If no permitted events require parking in that area, Zone 3 will be open, allowing a longer 18-hole course.

This system of three zones allows us to expand disc golf as much a possible without conflicting with other permitted park uses, and is an expansion of the approved disc golf course area originally approved last year, and is larger compared to the proposal we sent out in early April.  All of the changes described in this decision are on the south side of Day Island Road, and none are adjacent to Pre’s Trail.

Thank you for your input and the good questions you asked that helped us make this decision!
