I was recently reviewing the Riverfront Research Park's Master Plan
(approved in 1988) to make comments on the proposed ORI building. I
was surprised to see that the plan calls for a pedestrian/bicycle
path with a railroad underpass near the UO power plant. It would
connect an unbuilt path along the millrace with a realigned river
path. Kind of a strange location for a path, but I think the idea was
that people would want to leave their office buildings and stroll
along the millpond. I've attached a bike/ped map of the Research Park.
Unfortunately, the plan doesn't call for a path under the railroad
track at Alder Street. This would create a direct connection from
the heavily populated west University area to the river path.
Hopefully the plan will be updated to include this important
connection in the future.
