to GEARs

My!  My!  My!  GEARs Group,

The heat showed up and we may have 100+ for several days – please be safe and wise out there!

In spite of the warming day, there were about 45 Riders on Ted’s and John’s Ride today – all racing the temperature gauge rather than each other!  However, at 11 a.m., on the Fern Ridge at Green Hill, it was about 82 degrees – not too bad, but good that we were closing in on the finish line!

Just a note – on Tuesday morning, Steve Hecker will be leading 12 to 14 mph Riders up McKenzie Pass – this group will be leaving from the Ranger Station at 7:30 a.m. since it is a remote Ride and not as many trees mixed in with the lava fields at the top.  Bring water and again, be wise if you are going to Ride with.

On another note, please note that Ride Leaders may alter or cancel Rides due to the temperature.  Just as they would for smoke, unhealthy air and colder/wetter/icier conditions.  We do not like to do this; however, we do our best in using good judgment.

On Monday, July 8th, at 8:30 a.m., Mike Cantrell will lead out “Slo-Mo Monday” Riders (10 to 12 mph) out Coburg Bottom Loop and back, 27 miles, 320’ gain.

On Tuesday, July 9th:

In addition to Steve leading folks up the 242 (47 miles, 4112’ gain), the ever-present Jackie will lead 10 to 12 mph Riders on our “Free, Fun Fox Hollow” Ride, approximately 26 miles, 1932’ gain – this Ride starts at 8:30 a.m.

That evening, at 6:00 p.m., Kayna will lead 14 to 16 mph Riders up McBeth and back down Fox Hollow, 23 miles, 1580’ gain.  Time to move those legs all you worker Bees, you’ve still got 3 more days in front of you.  No Holiday this week!  Push it forward!!

On Thursday, July 11th:

At 8:30 a.m., Karen will lead 13 to 15 mph Riders to Veneta via Bolton Hill, 50 miles, 1695’ gain.

At 6:00 p.m., Julie will lead those “Are You Sure It’s TGIF Tomorrow” 14 to 16 mph Riders out McKenzie View and Back, 25 miles, 543’ gain.

If you haven’t noticed, both Tuesday and Thursday Evening Rides have been getting a pretty good turnout!  Way to go Angie, Julie, Steph, Kayna and Danielle!  You make a difference for those who can’t Ride in the morning!

On Saturday, July 13th, at 8:30 a.m., Ted and I will lead 12 to 14 and 10 to 12 mph Riders (respectively) out Cloverdale with a stop at Creswell Bakery.  This route has been done before; we just didn’t have a RWGPS map for it – we do now!

Plus, I need to make up for the Creswell Bakery being closed on our July 4th Ride down there, what with the Parade and Shindigs going on!  We did have 33 Riders make that fun journey.  And, so we could get out of town, we kind of inserted ourselves into the Parade, and being the only ones Parading at that time managed to garner a few waves and a bit of applause.  It helped that we had Riders wearing USA related jerseys!!  A fun Ride!

On Sunday, July 14th, at 9:00 a.m., Howard will lead our Gravel/Mixed Surface 12 to 14 mph Riders on the Old Stagecoach Rd, 30 miles, Level B.  Parking is available at the Wildcat Covered Bridge.

On Monday, July 15th, at 8:30 a.m., Mike is back leading our “Slo-Mo Monday” Riders (10 to 12 mph) on our Scenic Springfield Route, 24 miles, Level B.
