to GEARs

Where’d that wet stuff come from this morning GEARs?  It wasn’t much, although, it has cooled the day for us and maybe the week!

Danielle is down Cottage Grove Way leading 11 Riders on the “Dinner With Brice” Gravel Ride.  I had someone wanting to know if Brice was cooking dinner for everyone.  That would be a great thought, but I’m thinking Brice might not be at the top when they get there.

I have a lot of discussion points today:

Texas 4000 – approximately 30 Student/Grad Riders will be rolling into Eugene this Wednesday stopping at the “Y” for food replenishment and a good nights sleep.  GEARs is going to feed them dinner that evening.  And then the following morning, Steve Hecker will lead a few other GEARs Riders as an escort out of town to the other side of Coburg.  Please signup on our Signup Genius Page if you are interested in joining in and can make a 7:00 a.m. start time.  And if you are interested in helping to serve/clean up dinner, please contact Mr. Hecker for further information.  Many thanks to those who have participated financially and are already signed up to serve dinner!

Saturday, June 29th = Our Siletz Loop Ride out of Newport!  Ride starts at 9:30 a.m.  John Reidy will lead the 16+ Riders (he knows all the secret stops!) and I will lead 13 to 15 mph Riders on this beautiful 69 mile down the bay, inland, and coastal Ride = 69 miles, 3615’ gain.  No, you do not have to like the climb on Otter Crest; however, you’ve gotta love the view!  If you can haul others and bikes or need to be hauled, meet me at Alton Baker Park at 7:30 a.m.  We will head out shortly thereafter.  Also, if you can cart Riders and Bikes, please let me know, so I have an idea of what to expect.              And, no matter what, please go to the “Yaquina Bay Lighthouse” which is just north west of the Yaquina Bay Bridge.     I’ve had my GPS change course on me and want me to go 5 miles north to Yaquina Head Lighthouse – I found out that a person will probably be late and not see other GEARs Riders right away.

Tomorrow, Monday, June 24th, at 9:00 a.m., Mike Cantrell will lead our “Slo-Mo Monday Riders” (10 to 12 mph) out McKenzie View and Back, 25 miles, 543’ gain.

On Tuesday, June 25th:

At 9:00 a.m., our previously announced journey up McKenzie Pass will be postponed as a Club Ride, as officially it is still not open.  The great thing is, Steve Hecker has agreed to still lead a local Hill Ride, where he will take you up and over and around, but not through (no tunnels) tall places, 25 to 50 miles and a Level C Ride.

At 6:00 p.m., Kayna will lead our “Stress Busting Tuesday Evening Riders With Some Ups” 14 to 16 mph Riders on our “Four Hills #2” route, 35 miles 2034’ gain.

On Thursday, June 27th:

At 7:00 a.m., Steve will lead a GEARs Texas 4000 Escort Team out to Bowers Rd, probably via North Coburg Rd (be flexible), 39 miles, 389’ gain.

At 9:00 a.m., for those who just can’t get up for a 7:00 a.m. Ride, I will lead 12 to 14 mph Riders out Clearwater and the McKenzie View, 29 miles, 680’ gain.

At 6:00 p.m. Ms. Julie Reed will lead our “Why Can’t Today Be Friday” 14 to 16 mph Riders out McKenzie View and Back, 25 miles, 543’ gain.  Come and help Julie earn her 2024 GEARs 1,000 Miles Orange Socks on this Ride, she only needs 12 miles!  Make her finish the Ride anyway!  Ha-ha!

On Saturday, June 29th:

At 9:00 a.m., our Ever-Steady Ted Conover will lead a local Ride for those who can’t make it to Newport.  Ted will lead 10 to 12 mph Riders out Alvadore via Milliron (there might be a Camas Bakery stop involved), 36 miles, 410’ gain.

And then the Siletz Loop at 9:30 a.m.  See above!        And for anyone interested, as I discussed in Friday’s Newsletter, if you’d like, you can pledge a Rider or yourself or just donate to Food For Lane County.  One of several non-profit organizations that GEARs supports and/or works with.  Food is a Good Thing!!

On Sunday, June 30th, at 9:30 a.m., Steph is back leading a Gravel Ride = “Old Stagecoach Rd”, 30 miles, Level B.  Parking is available near the Wildcat Covered Bridge.

On – wait, what do you mean it’s July already?  On July 1st, at 8:30 a.m. we are planning to have a “Slo-Mo Monday” Ride (10 to 12 mph); however, we have not quite completed July’s Schedule, but should get it posted Monday or Tuesday at the latest.

Just a reminder, starting in July our normal Morning Rides will start at 8:30 a.m., through August.

And Beyond:

In August – the bRamble Volunteer Rides.  The Blackberry bRamble.

In December = Christmas Holiday Light Rides!

Ride we do!  And we Ride with some Great People!  And we do Great Things in and for our Communities!  And we have Fun while doing it!  Come Ride with us!!

Peace,

Larry
