Hello GEARs Group,

25 of us had a great Ride on the 69-mile Siletz Loop out of Newport yesterday!  Not everyone made it to the correct lighthouse – this makes 3 out of 3 years for that; however, it all works out.  21 of the Riders gathered at the TapHouse to replace a few carbs before the journey home!  I’d recommend the Fish (Cod) and Chips, but everything looked pretty good!

We have 90-degree temps projected for the end of the week with a high of 98 degrees on Saturday = drink more water, add sunscreen and maybe not ride as far or as fast as you would otherwise.

Tomorrow, July 1st brings in an earlier start time for most of our morning start times = 8:30 a.m., unless posted otherwise.

And tomorrow, Monday, at 08:30 a.m, Kentucky Bob will be leading our “Slo-Mo Monday” Riders (10 to 12 mph) out to Clearwater & Scenic Springfield, 24 miles, 536’ gain.

On Tuesday, July 2nd,

At 8:30 a.m., Jackie is back from another Adventure Ride and will lead 10 to 12 mph Riders on our “Free, Fun Fox Hollow” Ride, with a bakery stop afterwards.  Come join the excitement of how you will get to the top of Fox Hollow – Jackie knows!  Approximately 26 miles, 1932’ gain.

At 6:00 p.m., either Danielle or Kayna will lead our “Release Me From Work For At Least 2 ½ Hours” Riders (14 to 16 mph) up Fox Hollow, down McBeth and then add the flavor of Gimpl just to top the Ride off!

On July 4th = Happy Independence Day!!!!

At 8:00 a.m., Sam will lead 13 to 15 mph Riders on a remote Ride to Mary’s Peak from Philomath, 38 miles, 4323’ gain.  There should be a group of Riders from Mid-Valley Bike Club doing this Ride as well – we are having a joint Club Gravel Ride with them in August.  And I anticipate we may do more of these in the future (Beyond).  Meet at the Philomath Post Office.

At 8:30 a.m.:

I will lead 12 to 14 mph Riders out to Hamm Rd via Lorane Hwy = 48 miles, 1769’ gain.

Kayna will lead 16+ Riders out to Hamm Rd via Fox Hollow = 49 miles, 2276’ gain.

Who knows what we will see in Creswell as they prepare and start their 4th of July Festivities?  Will there be a Bakery stop, or will there be several other opportunities to carb load?

On Saturday, July 6th, at 8:30 a.m.:

Ted will lead 12 to 14 mph Riders out to Franklin Firehouse and back, 40 miles, Level B.

John Reidy will lead 16+ Riders out to Veneta, Vaughn, Knight, Warthem, 61 miles, Level C.

Sam will 10 to 12 mph Riders on a remote Ride = the “Shotgun Loop from Mohawk”, 54 miles, 4879’ gain (Level D)…………Here’s the Ride for all you Cycling Goats!  Meet at the Mohawk Store off Hill and near Marcola Rds.

On Sunday, July 7th, at 9:00 a.m., Steph Brandt is back and will lead a remote Gravel Ride out West Boundary, 12 to 14 mph, 35 miles, Level C.  Meet at the Singal Point Boat Ramp.  This is a remote start.

On Monday, July 8th at 8:30 a.m., Mr. Mike will lead our “Slo-Mo Monday Riders” (10 to 12 mph) out to Coburg Bottom Loop and Back, 27 miles, Level A.

And Beyond, at least a day:

On Tuesday, July 9th, at 8:30 a.m.:

Jackie will lead our “Free, Fun Fox Hollow” Riders (10 to 12 mph) up, where else? = Fox Hollow with a Bakery stop at the end.  Approximately 26 miles, 1932’ gain.  This Ride starts from Alton Baker Park.

Steve Hecker will lead 12 to 14 mph Riders on a Trek up McKenzie Pass (242) -it’s supposed to be officially open by July 4th!  This will go to the Observatory & Back, 47 miles, Level C.  This is a remote start, meet at the McKenzie Bridge Ranger Station.

More Beyond Riding!

On Saturday, July 20th, at 8:00 a.m., Steven Savich will lead 16+ Riders to Drain to Wolf Creek, 104 miles, Level C.  This will start at Alton Baker Park.

On Sunday, July 28th, at 8:00 a.m., Jackie will lead 12 to 14 mph Riders out Lorane, Drain, Scott’s Valley and London, 76 miles, Level C.  This is a remote start Ride out of Cottage Grove (more details coming).

In August:

The Joint Gravel Ride/Camping weekend with MVBC – August 2nd, 3rd & 4th.

On Saturday, the 17th, “bRamble Volunteer Rides” – lets check out the Routes before the bRamble!

On Sunday, the 25th, we have “The Blackberry bRamble”, our once-a-year GEARs Fund Raising Event that draws Riders from all over, just to come and Ride in our Special Part of the Country!  Volunteer opportunities are still available, check our bRamble Page for further information.

In September – who is interested in a GEARs Camping Weekend?

In early October, we are looking into a Bike Packing weekend.  Day #1, Ride to Campground #1.  Day #2, Ride to Campground #2.  Day #3, Ride back to your vehicle.  This will be partly asphalt, but mostly gravel type Riding.

In late October, don’t forget our “Halloween Lights” Ride!

And then our “Christmas/Holiday Lights” Ride in December, both in Springfield and Eugene and topped off with a gathering to share stories, treats and beverages.

And then there will be so much more in 2024!  What a Great Cycling Club we have!  Come Ride with us!

Peace,

Larry
