RAMONA FALLS

MT. HOOD WILDERNESS

Meet on the west side of SPC parking lot at 8:30 am for carpooling.  We will leave at 8:45 am.  Take Hwy 26 east to the I-405 access to I-84 and take I-84 eastbound to exit 17, through the Troutdale frontage road, turn right as though going to the Columbia Gorge Premium Outlet Stores (absolutely do not stay there to shop), but stay on NW Graham/257th/NE Kane Drive which intersects with Hwy 26.  Follow 26 to Sandy.  As you enter Sandy, there is a Fred Meyers on the right.  Enter the Fred Meyer parking lot where we will meet again.  Restrooms are here.  We will caravan again to the trailhead.  Across from the Zigzag Inn turn left onto East Lolo Pass Road.  After 4.2 miles turn right onto paved Road 1825, and in 0.7 miles turn right across the Sandy River bridge.  Continue 1.8 miles on what is still Road 1825, and then fork left onto Road 100 for half a mile to a large parking area at road’s end.

Difficulty – Moderate

Distance – 7.1 mile loop

Elevation gain – 1000 feet

Season – late April through October

Trailhead parking permit – Required

2013 REBEL DAY HIKES

Rebel hikes provide an opportunity for hikers to improve their conditioning, learn about what to wear and gear to pack, and become better acquainted with those of similar inclinations while enjoying some spectacular views.

The rebel leaders for this series of hikes are Dona Lynn Thornburg and Joanie Sampson, two gals who love to hike.  Contact them if you are interested in any of these hikes at hik...@sunsetpres.org.  Emails will not be read on hike days.

Prepare for each hike by bringing a daypack large enough to carry clothing layers (NOT COTTON) appropriate for Oregon weather (cold/rain/wind), hat, lunch/snack for along the trail, at least one liter of water or favorite sports drink.  Wear comfortable, broken-in lug sole trail boots.  Optional equipment would be trekking poles, packable umbrella, pack cover, etc.  Please don’t bring pets.

While we encourage carpooling, you are welcome to travel on your own if you prefer.  It is customary to contribute toward the driver’s fuel expense. Please note some hikes require a Forest Pass.  These can be purchased at REI and Bi-Mart.
