Jonathan —

Trump and his allies in Congress are attacking every single piece of the Bill of Rights and every single personal and collective freedom that we are guaranteed. This is a blatant attack on people of this country — and the regime knows that if they hope to get away with it, they'll have to control the capital city.

Trump wants to force his agenda on DC. One way he's doing it is by getting Congress to block DC's local budget. Two new bills in Congress attempt to interfere recent changes to DC's local tax code and strip funding from programs that families here need. Send a letter to your members of Congress telling them to oppose the new attempts to interfere in DC's budget.

Here's the backstory.

In December, the DC Council passed a law to unlink our local tax rates from federal tax rates. Many states do this and in DC's case, this change averted a nearly $700 million shortfall in revenues. DC leaders invested that money in the DC Earned Income Tax Credit and a DC Child Tax Credit, proven tools for tackling poverty, reducing racial inequities, and boosting inclusive economic growth.

Now, Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) and Congressman Brandon Gill (R-TX) have introduced so-called "disapproval" resolutions that would overturn DC's local law. This move is anti-democratic, anti-family, would destabilize DC's finances, and it's wrong.

The Trump regime wants to destabilize DC to gain control of it and prevent a transfer of power like they tried to do on January 6. The people of DC don't have representatives in Congress, so we need your help. Tell your representatives to be in solidarity with DC, protect democracy, and VOTE NO on this and all attacks on DC communities.

On behalf of the 700,000 people of DC without representation in Congress as well as the families our local government serves, thank you for your solidarity in this moment.

In partnership,
Free DC
