Dear Grassroots Group Leaders and Activists,

Please find below NEW Calls to Action for this weekend.  We expect the bills to be heard in committee on Monday or Tuesday.

In case you missed it:
  • Is Trump's Patriotic History Fundamentally Dishonest?
  • The Virginia Progressive Leadership Program (VAPLP) is now accepting applications for Pod 12. This no-cost, four-month, cohort-based program supports Virginia leaders and changemakers committed to advancing social justice and progressive values. Grounded in a liberatory framework, VAPLP centers BIPOC leadership and diverse lived experiences, offering intentional skill-building, movement strategy, and collective practice to help develop the next generation of bold, effective leaders across the Commonwealth. Spots are limited. Applications are due by Friday, March 13th.
Finally, below are grassroots Upcoming Events.  Please share them with your group members and friends.

All the best,

Luisa

Please Vote YES on HB217 and ban assault weapons. A 2025 study by Everytown found that 74% of Virginians support a ban on Assault Weapons. Additionally, the study found that states with stronger gun laws had lower rates of gun deaths than states with weaker laws. States with the fewest gun restrictions had a rate of gun deaths that was 2.5 times higher than the states with the most.

Thank you for your support of HB217 Assault Weapons Ban.

Thank you!

Ask our legislators to VOTE YES on HB1207, Paid Family & Medical Leave
This bill will enable families to care for their loved ones, including: 1) A biological child, foster child, stepchild, or legal ward; 2) A family member in the Armed Forces; and 3) Grandparents, grandchild, or sibling as well as a domestic partner. Employer and employee put aside a contribution each month. These monies are placed in a trust fund managed by the state's VEC.

Tell Our Delegates to Vote YES on HB 1438 and HB 1441 to End Harmful Law Enforcement Cooperation With ICE
Last week, your advocacy helped move SB 783 through the VA Senate Courts of Justice Committee. The full VA Senate will vote on it very soon! This week, let's move similar bills through the VA Public Safety Committee. Act now because these bills may be heard as soon as Tuesday February 3! When VA law enforcement spends time and resources assisting ICE, they're not protecting you or your community! And when ICE makes arrests without judicial warrants, people are deprived of their Constitutional rights. Let's get VA law enforcement  back to its real job and make ICE play by the rules that our country was built on!
CLICK HERE to tell the delegates on the House Public Safety Committee to vote YES on HB 1438 and HB 1441.

Do you believe billionaires should be able to buy our elections?

Virginians deserve a democracy that answers to voters—not the highest bidder. It's time for real campaign finance reform, including reasonable limits on contributions. Tell your legislators to hear campaign finance bills in committee and bring them to a vote. Democracy only works when our leaders are accountable to the people.

  1. Click here to send a message to your legislators today.
  2. Send a message (Click here) to the Senate P&E Committee to Vote "Yes" on specific campaign finance bills.
  3. Ask legislators in the House P&E Committee to hear and vote "yes" on good governance bills. Raise your voice by clicking here.
