Subject: Take Action Now: Support the Fair Housing Grant Program

Hello JEANETTE

The NAAP Virginia State Conference calls on all members, branches, and allies to take immediate action in support of a critical budget amendment that advances housing justice and racial equity throughout the Commonwealth.

WHAT IS THE FAIR HOUSING GRANT PROGRAM?
Proposed by Delegate Adele McClure, Budget Amendment Item 102 #27h would establish a Fair Housing Grant Program to provide funding to Virginia's cities and counties to address disparities caused by racial segregation and discriminatory policies. Grant funds would support local efforts to improve housing access, health outcomes, employment opportunities, and transportation equity.

WHY THIS PROGRAM IS NEEDED
For years, local governments receiving HUD funding have identified housing discrimination and segregation impacts through Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice (AIs). However, many localities lack the resources to implement these recommendations. This program turns data into action and plans into progress.

DISPARITIES EXIST THROUGHOUT THE COMMONWEALTH
Across Virginia, historically segregated neighborhoods continue to experience stark disparities, including significant life expectancy gaps; higher rates of hospitalization for preventable conditions such as asthma; increased child poverty; limited access to quality transportation; and unequal employment opportunities based on zip code.

TAKE ACTION TODAY

Contact your City Council or County Board members and urge them to advocate for inclusion of this funding in the state budget.

FAIR HOUSING IS A CIVIL RIGHT
