Hello everybody, I am too new to Windows Vista to understand what is
going on.

For weeks I've been happily coding away on this machine useing GWT
1.6.4, all command line (no Eclipse). Now, When I launch an
application in hosted mode, I just get blank white screens.

It's not just my code. The same thing happens with the GWT examples
which I build with the out of the box build.xml scripts.

I even tried redownloading GWT, reinstalling it, and rebuilding the
samples. No difference.

What am I not understanding about Windows Vista?

Thanks a lot!

OK, additional information.

%ant_home%\bin\ant build does in fact create new class files, so I
double-checked that.
%ant_home%\bin\ant hosted pops up the two blank white screens that
remain blank. For this one example the url is http://localhost:8888/Hello.html

I bang on the Compile/Browse button and wait a minute, the application
pops up in a third browser window.

Why do I have to do that if I just ran the build?!?

Hi sb10,

Running 'ant build' should create class files as well as the .nocache.js and .cache.html files in a WAR style output directory. Is this working for you?

Running 'ant hosted' should bring up the hosted mode browser, and if you're running it from the existing samples, it should open a new hosted mode browser window with the application properly loaded. It seems like you tried doing this for the Hello sample application. Did that not work for you?

If not, you might want to try and see if there are any Windows Firewall settings or security measures in place that are blocking the hosted mode process. Windows Vista should bring up a security dialogue if it is blocking the hosted mode process from running.

Hope that helps,

I experienced the same thing but on Windows 7. I found the following
in their faq http://code.google.com/webtoolkit/doc/1.6/FAQ_Troubleshooting.html#Navigation_to_the_page_was_canceled
but their fix doesn't seem to work for me. Although I'm able to get by
now if I fire the hosted mode and switch localhost in the url for
127.0.0.1.

I'd like to see an alternative fix that works in Windows 7.

I had the same problem with Vista and IE7/8.
Clearing the IE-browser history/cookies worked for me.
