Original thread:
http://groups.google.com/group/Google-Web-Toolkit/browse_thread/thread/5cbcfb89fa8e35fc/7e1a86d578ffda1a?lnk=raot
I am creating a new thread because the original thread is confusing
and full of mis-information about what the problem really is.

The Ubuntu update for libnss3 causes hosted mode to die. (SIGSEGV) on libpthread
the version that is broken is 3.12.0.3-0ubuntu0.8.04.4
to fix, open Synaptic, search for libnss3-1d. Click on Package - Force
Version and select version 3.12.0~beta3-0ubuntu1.

then apply you can also lock the old version so next time you update
you won't have the same problem again.

This was rather hard to track down. ;-) Why does the hosted mode
browser use the lib ssl? Is the connection between the internal web
server and the hosted browser encrypted?

Also, Who's bug is this? Do I file a bug report with the gwt guys or ubuntu?

Just for the sake of being complete, this is the environment
GWT 1.5.0 and GWT 1.5.1
jkd 1.6.0_06 and jkd 1.6.0_06
Ubuntu 8.4 32bit
kernel - 2.6.24-19-generic

Actually, my css file was pulling an image from an https url. I guess
thats why the ssl lib was being used...

Hi Jeremiah,

Thanks for posting up the details about the SSL update problem you experienced.

It's a little hard to tell where the problem lies exactly in this case. It could be a Ubuntu bug, or it could be the fact that hosted mode is currently using an old distribution of Mozilla which is relying on an old libnss. If the problem is the latter, there is a workaround available (keeping older versions of the library around and using those, as you seem to have done), but what's even better is that the problem will have been solved once and for all in the new Out-of-Process hosted mode model which is planned for a near term future GWT release.

Hope that helps,
