In general, GWT is very easy to understand. But there are a few
obvious (well, at least to me) questions, whose answers are a bit
complicated. They are sometimes answered in this group, but often the
answers are scattered everywhere and one has to do one's own
synthesis. Maybe this content can be consolidated somewhere.

Would it make sense for Google to host a community-contributed
cookbook for GWT? Ideally with the means for public comments on each
recipe. Maybe hosting it is too much effort for the (presumably) small
GWT staff, but it would have saved me a lot of experimentation and
googling.

Both the main GWT project and the Incubator include wikis. The
Incubator includes an FAQ derived from questions asked on the forum.

GWT wiki - http://code.google.com/p/google-web-toolkit/w/list
Incubator wiki - http://code.google.com/p/google-web-toolkit-incubator/w/list

Is that the sort of thing you're looking for?

Thanks for the links, I wasn't aware of either of them. The current
information in the GWT wiki seems to be more about planning than about
user-collected documentation. Intuitively, I'd start a new wiki, but
maybe it's enough to create a wiki page for recipes.

BWT: Here are a few examples of what I mean by "recipe":

- How to build a war with ant (I've found material here, but I'm not
sure what approach would be truest to the GWT philosophy).
- How to enable application-global JSPs in hosted mode (I can provide
this recipe).
- Invoking GWT from JavaScript: static and instance invocation (I can
provide this recipe).

rauschma,

I think what your suggesting is a great idea. The existing content is
great, but not terribly approachable. I'll contact you off list to see
if you're interested in getting this started.
