Hello fellow GSAers!

Due to security constraints in our datacenter, we are unable to
monitor our GSA's using SNMP, so all we currently have to monitor the
internal system status is it's daily report which we have emailed to a
couple of groups. The obvious limitation with this is nobody is
reading these emails.

Two days ago, we were fortunate to have had a random person inform us
that the 'Drive Status' had a problem, and it now appears our RAID
array is in a degraded state, etc. When a developer is the first
person noticing a problem, that's when you need to create a better
monitoring solution! I would like to use an email filter.

Question is - I need to know what all other variations of 'Status: '
could be (other than the usual 'OK'), so I can make an email filter to
forward to the world when there is any problem. I now know that
'Caution' is one keyword I can use, based on the email we received
(and nobody read):
--------------------------
System Status: CAUTION
Machines Status: OK.
Disks Status: OK.
Temperatures Status: OK.
Raid Status: CAUTION. drive2 Unconfigured(good), one drive down

Crawl Summary:
Document errors since yesterday:: 58
Documents crawled since yesterday:: 0
------------------------

What are *ALL* other possibilities? Anybody? Beuller?

Thanks in advance - this group has proven to be quite useful!

Just a quick question, why aren't you implementing a monitoring
solution using the new 6.0 Admin API?

This way you could send out warning as soon as one indicator returns
something different then "green".
http://code.google.com/apis/searchappliance/documentation/60/gdata/acapi_java.html#SystemStatus

Btw. in the tab you find the valid status messages as well.

cheers

Thanks, Mike. We would, but we don't have the new 6.0 GSA - we're
currently locked into a 2 year contract (with a year or so remaining)
with the previous version.

We do want to upgrade to 6.0, mostly for the config sync ability,
we're working on a work-around now for syncing the configs between our
GSA's...

Anyone else have any input? :D

Greetings,

If you have a maintenance agreement with Google Support, this should
include upgrades to current versions. If you're unsure, you should
contact Google Support.
