Bad Request message when using Google Trends

I've made several attempts to use the Google Trends search today, and
all resultsed in the error:

Bad Request
Your client has issued a malformed or illegal request.

I've searched from http://www.google.com/trends and http://www.google.com/trends/hottrends
. I've tried Firefox and IE. I've used phrases, single words, and two
words separated by a comma. All attempts made over a period of ten
minutes failed.

(Is this group monitored? The front page shows the most recent
messages and they go back to 15 January. None of the eight has a
response.)
