Getting photos from SD into Picasa in Linux Mint 17.1

Tried various solutions unsuccessfully.

Finally landed on the easiest method, this was to close Picasa 3, create a directory on the Desktop page say "Feb 2015"
Copy the just the photos off the SD card into this directory.

Move this directory into your photo directory and restart Picasa 3  which will then pick up this new directory and its photos.

Unless you know a better way?

Did you install Picasa 3 from Google or the Mint Reo's/
Because ,since Google was not adapted any more to Linux ,it has been a problem. I like Picasa,but there does not seem to be a gooof foto package ;although Google Pixlr might do,
