I really like this gadget, however I have come to the sad realization
that I have nobody else to use it with. My mom and my co-worker at
work both have Macs (and as such connect through iChat) and my other 3
friends on Google Talk suffer similar problems (2 use a third-party
client on windows, Psi, and one uses Pidgin on Linux). I myself have
several ways I use Google Talk, including the official client on my
Laptop, where I use this gadget now, and freetalk (a console IM client
for linux) on my Ubuntu Server, amongst others. I also use google
talk a LOT on my cell phone through a third-party J2ME Jabber client
(as well as GMail and Google Maps). It would be great if there was a
third-party client capable of both getting and updating the status of
my friends and me, and preferably something I could compile from
source for the OS needed and/or run on my cell phone.
I am not a J2ME developer by any means and know only basic C, though I
consider myself nearly an expert on PHP. If Google doesn't mind I
wouldn't mind creating a (free and maybe open source) C and/or PHP
application to do this. I'm not asking for any help (it's a gadget,
so I can disassemble it and/or packet sniff it and make the app
myself) but more along the lines of permission. Perhaps if I could
code a rough draft in C or PHP someone else could port it to J2ME,
also?
