Inviting people to meetings

I am wondering if there is a way in Google Calendar to invite people
to meetings as "optional". I've used this in other calendar programs
and it is very handy when you only want people to be aware of a
meeting (they don't have to attend). If anyone know of a way to do
this please let me know as I cannot figure it out!
