I'm in a transitional period from Zelator to Theoricus.

Some grade workbooks I see mention constructing an astral temple in
Zelator, and others do not.

What are your thoughts on the appropriate time (and method) for this
work?

Thanks

I think it's a long term project that should be pursued over the
entire time one is in the Outer Order. But 1=10 is a good place to
start!

Are you working solo, or are you part of a lodge? Different lodges
have different emphases on these kinds of exercises, so you should
work on it if it's part of your lodge's 1=10 curriculum.

IMHO, that kind of visualization work is fairly advanced, but is
certainly a safe project for the Aspirant to do. However, the more
experienced one is, the better job one will do. There is absolutely no
hurry - it is, in fact, the work of a lifetime.

It's like this: would I want to build a house while I'm still an
apprentice, or would I rather wait until I'm a master carpenter?

Good luck on your path! (For what it's worth, I liked being in the 2=9
Grade. My advice to all Aspirants: get out of Zelator as soon as
possible!)

Hey max555. Thanks for the response.

I'm going solo. I live in rural Australia, so it's hard to find people
serious about the great work in any form, let alone a specific GD
lodge.

I've thought on the topic some more, and decided astral work is ok in
the confines of my physical temple (after appropriate banishing) but
that rising on the planes, astral travel etc can be left until I'm
more comfortable.

I'm already fairly decent at lucid dreaming (had been doing that for 5
years before initiation). That gives me some similar experiences.

Any tips on the construction itself?

Thanks

When I envisioned my own astral temple, I worked with an
"architecture" I personally liked (hey, it's my house!) and divided it
into four quarters with a "center space" - much like a GD temple, only
square not rectangular.

As a way to proceed, lead yourself through a guided meditation to
envision the temple from the outside, enter it, see the templespace
around you, then proceed to envision the details. Since you are in
Zelator, you could just focus on the Northern wall, and envision all
of the "accouterments" of the Earth element. Then plan to do the same
for each of the walls as you progress through the Grades. When you
reach Portal, you create the center space. So the building of the
astral temple and the advancement through the Grades are all part of
the same process.

Which is as it should be, I think.

Good idea - I like the concept of adding detail to each element as I
progress through them.

I have the good fortune of a dedicated room for my temple. It's
roughly square and each wall faces a cardinal direction almost
perfectly. The single window even looks out to forest in the North.
Handy! (coincidence...?)

I live alone, and don't use the room for any other purpose. Given
that, I was considering simply superimposing an astral "layer" onto
the physical room. Same size and shape, but with each wall coloured to
match its element. Similar to the astral temple found in Jason
Augustus Newcombe's "New Hermetics", only with the 1:1 physical room
to ground it.

I'll incorporate your phased approach for adding detail to each
element.

Thanks!
